Wimbledon 2026 highlights: scented candles

One of the most distinctive products available at Wimbledon in 2026 was a collection of three scented candles, each made from 100% soy wax. Designed to capture the atmosphere of the Championships, the collection featured gin & tonic, strawberries & cream, and freshly cut grass fragrances.

Burn all three together, close your eyes and breathe deeply, and you may feel transported back to the sights, sounds and atmosphere of SW19.

Remaining candles are available from the Wimbledon shop, with prices starting at £45.

Aromatherapy, your way

Aromatherapy is increasingly popular, and its fans believe it can help with a lot of life's problems, including stress and tension. You don't need to consult an aromatherapist to try it out yourself. You can simply choose a scented candle with one of your favourite scents, choose your favourite spot in your home, light the candle, and relax. It's that simple. Aromatherapy whenever you want it, right in your home.

Mindfulness, by candlelight

Mindfulness is a new idea, and a very old one. The idea of watching a candle to calm your thoughts is almost as old as candles themselves. Watch the flame, enjoy the scent, live in the moment, and let everything else go.

How to burn scented candles correctly

Getting the best performance from any candle depends on how it is used. Following a few simple guidelines will help your candle burn more efficiently, last longer and release its fragrance more effectively.

Allow the first burn to create a full wax pool

The first time you light a scented candle is the most important. Allow it to burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edge of the container. This usually takes between two and four hours, depending on the size of the candle. If the candle is extinguished too soon, it can create a tunnel down the centre, leaving unused wax around the sides that may never melt properly.

Trim the wick before lighting

Before each use, trim the wick to around 5mm. A wick that is too long produces a larger flame, creating excess soot and causing the candle to burn more quickly than intended. Keeping the wick trimmed helps produce a cleaner flame, improves safety and extends the life of the candle.

Avoid burning for too long

Although it may be tempting to leave a candle burning throughout the evening, it is better to use it for no more than four hours at a time. Burning for excessive periods can overheat the wax, reduce fragrance quality and shorten the candle's overall lifespan.

Place your candle in the right location

Burn your scented candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from draughts, open windows and air conditioning vents. Moving air can cause the flame to flicker, leading to uneven burning, excess soot and reduced fragrance throw.

Extinguish the flame carefully

Rather than blowing the candle out, use a candle snuffer if possible. This reduces smoke and prevents hot wax from splashing. If you do blow out the flame, do so gently to minimise smoke.

Store candles correctly

When not in use, store scented candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and sunlight can soften or discolour the wax and may affect the fragrance over time. Keeping the lid on the candle, where supplied, also helps preserve the scent by preventing dust from settling on the wax.

Always follow basic safety advice

Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children or pets. Keep candles well away from curtains, paper, decorations and other flammable materials. Always allow the candle to cool completely before moving it.

With proper care, a quality scented candle will burn more evenly, last longer and continue to provide a beautiful fragrance from the first lighting to the last.
